A Question For The Wilco Fans...

So, for no reason whatsoever, I've never really gotten into the band Wilco. I mean, I have nothing against them at all... they just never really stuck with me, music appreciation-wise. I bring this up because the other day, I happened to run across this one song of theirs called "The Lonely 1" and it totally broke my heart like a tray of dropped wine glasses in a crowded restaurant. We're talking glass shards and a Beaujolais everywhere, patrons with doused coats, the works... Like, I'm so glad that I'm not currently lonely and miserable, because if I were, this would probably be the song that loaded the gun or tied the noose while I typed up my brilliantly-written "Smell ya later" note.

They never made a video of it or anything, but you can find the song here via that iMeem website. Oh, and... yeah... if you are currently miserable, you might want to steer a wide berth around this one. Obviously. Go listen to some Katrina and the Waves instead.

Anyway, what I'm getting at is this: Is the rest of their stuff as good as this song? And if so, where should I start if I'm looking to become more well versed in all things Wilco? What's the right jumping off point? Because all I really know from them is "Heavy Metal Drummer" which is cute enough, and "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart," which I thought was okay. And they were good on SNL the other night, too... that "Hate It Here" song was mighty catchy.

So there it is. Thanks for the assist, muchachos, if you can provide me with one.

If you like it more...
-alt.country : try "A.M."
-alt.country but with more depth : try "Being There"
-pop with great hooks : try "Summerteeth"
-beautifully experimental : try "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" (known as their best work so far)
-mixed with all the previous : try "A Ghost Is Born"
-live : try "Kicking Television"
-laid back, but still awsome : try "Sky Blue Sky"

Personnally, I'd recommend the live "Kicking television" and Sky Blue Sky as a start.

Looks like "Kicking Television" is the place to start. Unless anyone else has a different say in the matter.

Thanks, kids!
